Book Review: The Holy Way

My "goal" this year is to blog about each book that I've read so that way at the beginning of 2009 I can see not only how many books I've managed to complete but also to see where the Holy Spirit has led me.

The first book completed of 2008 is Paula Huston's The Holy Way: Practices for a simple life.

I blogged about it here and here (yes I know I began it in 2007 but I FINISHED it this year!)

Each chapter gave me something new to think and pray about. I found each one fascinating and giving me so much to think about. While each chapter is devoted to different "forms" of reaching simplicity in one's life they all come together in a cohesive whole. The author is not at all "prideful" or "preachy". She's down to earth explaining....teaching through her own example on how to reach closer union with God. While she is Catholic the book can be used by people of any denomination to reach a deeper prayer life.

I found a very good little "tid-bit" in the last section of the book: "Simplification is ultimatly a method, not the goal. It is the path, not the end-point; the field, not the treasure."

I need to keep this in front of me. The end-point as in anything else, is God. Why simplify your life just for the sake of simplifying it? Simplify it so that there is nothing in the way between you and God.
