Catholic Carnival 133

Welcome to Catholic Carnival 133. I am not as creative as a few other’s who have been hosting the Carnival lately….I couldn’t think of a theme ahead of time and even with all the posts that I have gotten in I still can’t really come up with a theme. Maybe my brain has turned to mush with trying to set up Confirmation programs at work and organizing schedules, catechists, etc. but I just can’t come up a theme.

So this week’s Carnival is a “mish-mash” of Catholic posts that are educational and entertaining and prayerful all in one!

Over at RunningRedLettered we have a post on the Assumption. A reflection on her favorite feast day which also includes one of my favorite prayers the Magnificat. A wonderful first posting to the Carnival and I hope to see you writing more for us!!

Up next we have a post from Christus Vincit - the BLOG! on a parish in Providence, Rhode Island (which is my Diocese as well and I am also employed at a Catholic Parish here). The post Latin Mass Spoken Here is about his former parish which continues the tradition of having a Latin Mass.

At Peace! Be Still we have a post about the recent trend of women’s clothing and the demoralizing of women through various “celebrities”. B-A-N-A-N-A-S is a beautifully written post about how we as women need to stand up and fight those who try to disrespect our “fair sex”. We need to demand respect in our vocation of women…and those celebrity women need to help us in that as well. (As a “declaimer” a few of the links in the post are a bit indecent for younger viewers. But it is a topic that needs to be spoken up about.)

What makes for a happy childhood? And how was yours? Bethune Catholic gives us a glimpse of his happy childhood at Childhood. He made me reflect a bit on my own childhood and how it was happy. We all need to remember that the innocence of childhood lasts far too short as it is….we need to pray to God that children are allowed to be as innocent as they can be for as long as they can be.

Over at Another Day of Catholic Pondering Sarah examines forgiveness in light of recent experiences and reading in her post It’s More then Just “That’s OK” Isn’t it? A beautiful post that certainly is something I need to ponder more.

“We have to go to Mass”. Or is it “We GET TO GO to Mass?” That’s more like it. How do you think about your “obligation” to attend Mass? Do you see it as something that “has” to be done or do you see it as a privilege to spend time in the Real Presence of our Lord? Over at 50 Days After is a beautiful post, Mass and Communal Celebration, the way we see Mass and the way we SHOULD see attending Mass.

Over at Postscripts From the Catholic Spitfire Grill we have, Stigmata, a post on Redneck Woman’s reflections on the stigmata of Padre Pio and how that physical sign of suffering and grace was personally useful to her.

Seminarian Matthew at A Catholic Life writes about how he will be entering the seminary on Saturday and due to the requirements of the seminary no blogging or posting on forums is allowed. So please go over to Beginning the College Seminary to read his last reflections for at least a year. Matthew, please know that you will be in all our prayers as you embark on this journey!

Along those same lines….my post here at Daughter of the King on Saint Therese is my reflections of how she has been present in my life praying for my vocation for a few years now. And like St. Therese who prayed special for priests, I have taken that upon myself as well…to pray and sacrifice in a special way for our priests and seminarians.

And then we have Transitus Tiber who is a novice for the Benedictine’s Oblates but as she explains in More time in the Novitiate she is discerning if the path is to be an Oblate or in another order. Please be assured of our continued prayers!

And prayers of thanksgiving as we read about the birth of identical quadruplets at Christine’s The World….IMHO.

And a new blog on the scene is One Came Back. A blog that allows us to go to place our prayer requests and just as importantly the answers to those prayers that we have had other’s pray for. The whole explanation can be found at Why This Blog. I think this is a wonderful idea for a blog!

A Catholic Mom in Hawaii has made new scripture stamps that she offers us to use on our blogs. Beautiful stamps Esther! Thank you.

This past Sunday’s Gospel (August 19) was where Jesus said that He came not to bring peace but division. Over at HMS Blog we have a reflection on that reading in Demoralizing and Divisive?Which focuses on the challenge that God’s saving message poses to us.

At Living Catholicism Jay has a post about why we should see and support the new pro-life movie “Bella”. While I haven’t seen this movie as yet, based on Jay’s review and a few friend’s of mine who HAVE seen it, I too highly recommend it.

And with the Harry Potter craze with the new and last book in the series we have a post at DeoOminGloria: Harry Potter and Christianity that explains why parents should maybe take another look at the series before allowing your children to read it.

Melissa at A Third Way writes in SAHM: Metal Mama that her vocation as mother is God’s way of molding her in sanctity and holiness. A beautiful post for us in ANY vocation….our individual vocations are our own particular road to holiness.

How many times have we been grateful to God for all the gifts and blessings He has given us and yet, because of our humanness we always seem to “come up short” with our thanks? At Ho Kai Paulos we have a post this week God Dominates the Game of Life which highlights humility and our inability to pay God back for the things He has given us.
