Prayers, Priests, Politics....

Catholic Carnival 125 is here! Prayers, Priests, Politics and more are the subjects for this week's Carnival. This is my first time hosting so please bear with me!

I have enjoyed receiving everyone's posts....and have been amazed at the working of the Holy Spirit. He has guided everyone's writings to fit into various catagories without us even realizing we're writing along the same lines.

First off....science and politics. Justin at Politics and Religion writes about Science's Overlooked Problem where he says that science alone cannot account for life, purpose nor God.

Jean at Catholic Fire writes about the article written on Catholic Exchange by Eric Pavlat in Superhuman: The Uncharted Territory of Transhumanism. She quotes from the article which speaks about new technology to enhance humans. She then provides some of her own thoughts and comments about this new technology that can quickly step into the realm of "playing God."

The subject of science and how it deals with humanity needs out prayers.

Closer to home is Ian at Musings from a Catholic Bookstore. Ian's grandmother is in the care of hospice with congestive heart failure. In Prayers Needed we read about what it was like living only a generation ago....and how much has changed since then. Although the bonds of family haven't changed.

Bryan at Bryan Murdaugh: Songs. Stories. Spirit. writes about family in his post Perspective on the Family. Bryan writes about being a "single parent" for a weekend while his wife is out of town....and how God used that experience to show him how very important it is to work together as a family. And how knowing how important family is and acting like it need to come together.

Elena at My Domestic Church writes this week about being open to new life in The Full Experience of being open to new life. And what a beautiful post it is. All parents should read it with an open heart....she reminds us of how precious children are. And all of us who someday wish to become parents should read it. Children are a gift from God....ALL of them. And we aren't the one's who "choose" if a life comes into being....that's reserved for God alone.

Next are prayers requested for priests....current and future priests.

I wrote here at Daughter of the King about how I was given a "wake-up call" about how important it is to pray for an increase of vocations in my post Pray for Vocations.

At A Catholic Life we find a post in defense of mandatory priestly celibacy in Our Sunday Visitor: May 27, 2007. Matthew was interviewed for Our Sunday Visitor and he has written his complete response in this post. His responses are absolutly beautiful and shows the loving sacrafice a man makes to Christ and His Church in saying "yes" to the vocation of priesthood. Yet another reason for us to life ALL priests up in prayer.

And to add a bit of humor to the seminarians life we have Contra at 50 Days After: who posts a YouTube video about a new seminarian at The Seminarian.

Next up we have a few book reviews.

At Book Reviews and More is a review of Searching for and Maintaining Peace by: Jacques Philippe. This is a different book by the same author as last week's Catholic Carnivial Contribution. This is Steven's third time reading this small book (only 110 pages and yet packed with information that it needs to be read and prayed through). I now have yet another author to add to my "to read" list!

Dunstan at The Protomonk reviews the book Seeking God: The Way of St. Benedict. This book reads through the Rule of St. Benedicit in a thematic way rather then line-by-line.

And now for a bit of how to read THE BOOK. As in God's Book. The Book inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Lindsay at Contrariwise writes about Learning to Love the Book. How by reading the Bible she is seeing her relationship with God grow...and how the "gaps" are being filled in. And how through her reading of the Bible has shown her that this Book is to be loved and treasured above all other books.

Next up is Our Blessed Mother in the Old Testament at Postscripts from the Catholic Spitfire Grill. She writes a beautiful post Who is Mary? Or how the Old Testament Instructs Catholics about Mary showing how our Lady is prefigured in the Old Testament.

And our last review and post for this week comes from Jay at Living Catholicisim. In Catholic issues with The Nativity he talks about the many ways that drama overpowered truth in the movie "The Nativity." Pick up the Gospels and read the real story. It "plays" out a lot better then the movie. And the Gospels hold the truth and nothing but the truth!
